As more companies track, reduce, or offset their carbon footprint, travellers need to be able to clearly see and understand green options when booking travel. Lightning displays carbon emissions estimates for flights, hotels, trains, and car hire in search results, so your people can instantly see their potential impact and make greener choices when deciding which option to take.

CTM partners with RDC Aviation to share carbon emissions estimates by cabin class in Lightning based on individual aircraft’s age, engine model, fuel efficiency, seating configuration, and even the airline’s investment in sustainable aviation fuel. Car rental search results can be sorted by carbon footprint, based on an average of 100 miles driven per day, or filtered to show electric or hybrid vehicles only.

The emission totals feed directly into our Carbon Budget feature which can be displayed both in Lightning and in CTM Portal for travel and sustainability admins to view. In Lightning the Carbon Budget is placed above search results, serving as a gentle reminder for travellers to be carbon-conscious. We make it even easier to find the most sustainable choices with CTM Green Choice labels, which highlight the lowest emissions options and show the difference between them and the average for that route.

Lightning’s powerful capabilities in flight and hotel search are matched by your choices for UK and European train travel. For applicable routes where it’s logical for a customer to travel by train, Lightning automatically runs a simultaneous search and shows the cost and carbon emissions savings that users can switch to in one click.
